Defeat Oglethorpe 7-1

The Rhodes baseball team defeated Oglethorpe 7-1 this afternoon in Atlanta, GA.  The Lynx offense pounded out 12 hits today, 4 of which were doubles, and took advantage of solo home runs by sophomore Brogan Jayne and and senior Mason Mosby.  Junior Max Gertz picked up the victory for the Lynx in his first career start.  Rhodes is now 21-12 on the year and 5-4 in SCAC play.

Junior Max Gertz picked up his second victory of the year working the first 5 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 unearned run, walked 2, and struck out 7.  Sophomore Hunter Chandler worked the final four innings en route to his first save of the year.  On the day, Chandler allowed 3 hits, no walks, no runs, and struck out 3.

The Lynx offense was led by senior 3B Mason Mosby who was 2-3 on the day, with a homerun, run scored, 2 RBIs, walked twice, and stole a base.  Mosby picked up his 200th career hit on a solo homerun to leftfield lead off the top of the fifth inning.  Freshman CF Travis Perkins was 2-5 on the day with a double, run scored, and 2 RBIs.  Sophomore C Chris Conkell was 2-5 on the day.  Sophomore 1B Brogan Jayne was 2-4 on the day with a homerun, double, 3 runs scored, a RBI, and walked once.  Sophomore DH Austin Marcum was 2-4 with a run scored, and walked once.

Rhodes will return to action this Thursday evening in Birmingham, AL against Birminham Southern.
